The McKeown’s are honored to have Thistle F.C. recognize Sonny. The big man would be proud to see the continued success of the club which holds so many cherished memories and houses so many lifelong friends.

Thistle F.C. was a significant part of our family’s lives and we must acknowledge the wonderful volunteers who contributed so much to ensure that all players had an opportunity to succeed.  Men such as Charlie McEwan, Ian Crumlish, Tom Mara, Jimmy Barker, Jimmy Harkes, Pat Brannigan, Bobby Craig and countless others who gave up  their own personal time and money to help the youth of Kearny. These men were not just coaches, they filled many roles in our lives as they drove us, fed us and mentored us.  They were our pals; they slipped us a couple of bucks when were in a cash negative position and helped us through the difficult transition from adolescence to manhood.

I am proud to say that Sonny was a part of this special fraternity of men who appreciated the sense of community and had a love affair with the “beautiful game”.
